Script Fairy Tale Noir: References

This Post will focus on some of the references I included in my script that have connections to Rumpelstiltskin or any fairy tale.

• Rumpelstiltskin Story: I added a couple of references in my script obviously the first one is the story is based on Rumpelstiltskin.

• Millers Daughter: The Main protagonist in the original story was only known as the Miller's Daughter in my story the main antagonist whose name is Betty Miller. Betty is also reference to the actress Elizabeth Burbridge who played the Miller's Daughter in an American version of Rumpelstiltskin (1915).

• Brothers Grimm: For my script I knew i wanted the main detectives that would run through  other stories to be based on the Grimm brothers so I took the names of the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm and gave them to the Detectives William and Jacob, I gave William the last name Grimsby. Jacob was given the name Friedrich which was the first name of one of Jacob's Lecteurs Friedrich Carl von Savigny. I also took the name Wilhelm and made it the name of a street.

• Spinning Wheel: The main plot of Rumpelstiltskin was that Rumpelstiltskin was able to spin gold on a spinning wheel, which is used for the name of the club in my script "The Spinning Wheel".

• Other Fairy Tales:  One of the other characters is based on Snow White which Bianca Snow, a Waitress at The Spinning Wheel as her name actually means White Snow also her fate at the end of the script mirrors Snow White as they both collapse when they are injected with poison.

• Other References: The three boys at the beginning of the scripts are referenced to Stand By Me leads even their names are taken from these characters more specifically  Teddy Duchamp,  Chris Chambers, Gordie Lachance. Also William and Jacobs call sign is 1812 which was the year when it was first collected by the Brothers Grimm.

That is all the references that i included in my script through the research I did.

Scripts Fairy Tale Noir: Rumpelstiltskin

For my second script writing fairy tales into film noir films and my first story is about Rumpelstiltskin entitled "What's My Name". So for this post i'll just give general information on the story and research I found about it.

Introduction:   

Rumpelstiltskin is a fairy tale popularly associated with Germany (where he is known as Rumpelstilzchen). The tale was one collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales. According to researchers at Durham University and the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the story originated around 4,000 years ago.

Name: 

The name Rumpelstilzchen in German means literally "little rattle stilt", a stilt being a post or pole that provides support for a structure. A rumpelstilt or rumpelstilz was consequently the name of a type of goblin, also called a pophart or poppart, that makes noises by rattling posts and rapping on planks. The meaning is similar to rumpelgeist ("rattle ghost") or poltergeist, a mischievous spirit that clatters and moves household objects. (Other related concepts are mummarts or boggarts and hobs, which are mischievous household spirits that disguise themselves.) The ending -chen is a German diminutive cognate to English -kin.

The earliest known mention of Rumpelstiltskin occurs in Johann Fischart's Geschichtklitterung, or Gargantua of 1577 (a loose adaptation of Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel) which refers to an "amusement" for children, i. e. a children's game named "Rumpele stilt oder der Poppart".

Scripts: Festival Research

For this post I'm going to talk about a few scriptwriting competitions/festivals that if I so chose I could send in my script.

1. The UK Film Festival Script Competitions: This year the festival is running two competitions First the Feature Script Competitions 2017/18 and the 3-Minute Script Competitions 2017 which both close January  9,2018. There are rules are  A) For The 3-Minute Script Competitions-The Script Only. B) For The Feature Script Competition-The Script Only, in addition you may also include (however this is optional)  a 1 page synopsis, A treatment /Outline of the script (up to 5 pages preferably including logline and pitch paragraph)

1. PAGE INTERNATIONAL SCREENPLAY COMPETITION: Submissions Feature Film Script, Short Film Script,Original TV Pilot. Rule are as follows:  Amateurs only:  All writers of submitted material must be 18 years of age or older on the date of submission, and each writer or writing team may not have earned more than $25,000 or the foreign equivalent (jointly or individually) for work as a screenwriter and/or fictional television writer.  Only original screenplays and teleplays are eligible.
